Bench application · Form 01

No CV. No interview. One form.

Twelve fields and one real technical question. If the answers hold up you get an invite to the entry gate — a two-hour build with your own CI — and after that, the paid board.

§ 01

The application

Everything here is read by one person — Dalton, who runs the agency. Answer question 11 in your own words; a copy-pasted answer is obvious within a sentence and is the fastest way to a no.

FORM 01 · BENCH APPLICATION 12 fields
Identity

Where the decision goes. One application per address.

Username or profile URL. Your entry-gate repo is created under it.

The bench runs on Discord. Handle only — not an invite link.

For Wise routing and tax paperwork later. No timezone requirement.

Work

What you actually reach for. Be specific; we match packages against this.

Something you wrote and would defend in review. A fork you actually contributed to counts; an empty fork does not.

Hours per week and the earliest you could take a package. Honest beats eager.

Screening

The post asks you to start your application with a specific word. Type it here. This is the only trick question on the page and it filters out roughly nine in ten submissions.

Be specific: what exactly do you compute the HMAC over, and what is the common Express mistake that quietly breaks it? Your own words, no AI paste — we probe this answer in review and a borrowed one collapses immediately.

0 / 2000

One sentence. “None yet” is a perfectly good answer if the rest is strong.

We reply to every application that follows the instructions, usually within three business days. Your answers are stored only to review this application.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
  • 01Dalton reads it. Every one, personally.
  • 02If it holds up: an invite to a private repo, filter-<your-handle>.
  • 03The entry gate — a signed-webhook receiver, roughly two hours, unpaid, with CI you write yourself.
  • 04Green CI, then a written decision inside two business days.
  • 05Pass: Engineers Discord, one-time paperwork, and you can bid the same day.
BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

The entry gate is unpaid and invite-only. It is the last unpaid thing you will ever do here — after it, money only moves on merged work, and it moves within 48 hours.

You will never meet a client, never join a call, and never install a time tracker. If that sounds like a catch, read the engineers page first — the whole model is written down there before you commit anything.
